Job Description

    As a leading manufacturer of litho printed cartons, Qualvis Print & Packaging has been providing brands with high quality packaging for over 35 years. Owned and operated by the Short family, the company initially concentrated on food packaging. As the business developed and markets diversified, Qualvis also began supplying cosmetic, multimedia, horticulture and distillery packaging; the core business is still the supply of carton packaging for the food manufacturing industry.

    Qualvis currently requires an Estimator with the ability to demonstrate knowledge of all areas of carton construction and estimating.  An understanding of all the production processes from print to conversion is essential with particular emphasis on carton design and layout.

    • Estimating accurate production costs using current MIS system EFI ‘Radius’ or knowledge of similar systems
    • Liaising with internal departments, from material procurement, design studio, print, die cutting, windowing, gluing to warehouse and despatch
    • Preparing estimates for the commercial manager and account executives
    • Producing estimates within agreed timescales
    • Verify carton and layout with each department for production and cost efficiency
    • Analyse and determine quantity and cost of all raw materials used in manufacturing
    • Assess spoilage/waste of all raw materials, machine make ready time, run speeds, run time, hand work if applied, for all manufacturing processes
    • Obtaining sub-contractor estimates for any external finishing
    • Reviewing prices on a regular basis to ensure that they are kept up to date with changing information
    • Developing procedures for pricing / costing work
    • Manage tenders to achieve strict deadlines
    • Responsible to the Commercial Manager


    • Knowledge of litho print process and carton construction/manufacture OR Trainee
    • Good mathematical ability, including good understanding of measurements
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
    • A sense of urgency, to address requests effectively without neglect to details
    • Must be able to understand customer’s and company specifications and explain technical procedures clearly to others
    • Takes initiative and ownership of projects and tasks
    • Excellent organisational skills including follow-up and accountability

» HSE and QMS Advisor

Key responsibilities

    Job Purpose: To assist the Head of Compliance to achieve and maintain HSE and Quality Management System (BRC/ISO9001) compliance within the business.

    • To document and maintain site risk assessments and safe systems of work for all operations on site.
    • To ensure the site is complying with the company’s HR, Health & Safety and Quality Management System processes and procedures.
    • Recording, investigating and responding to all internal and external non-conformities in a timely manner.
    • Recording and investigating all H&S accidents, near-misses and incidents in a timely manner.
    • Recording and investigating all third party recommendations (i.e. Customer audits, pest control etc.)
    • Assist in the co-ordination and implementation of any corrective or preventative actions – including changes to the QMS system, staff training etc. (as necessary).
    • To investigate supplier non-conformities and raise compensation claims as appropriate.
    • Monthly GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and H&S audits across all site zones.
    • To assist in BRC/ISO9001/FSC audit preparation as required.
    • Ad-hoc projects as specified by the Head of Compliance.

Skills required

    • A Nebosh or IoSH accreditation in Health and Safety.
    • A good understanding of BRC and/or ISO9001 processes and procedures.
    • A continuous improvement and lean manufacturing background.
    • Knowledge of Fire Safety Regulations, Health and Safety regulations and emergency procedures.
    • Good communication skills at all levels within an organisation.
    • A self-motivated, positive can-do attitude with an attention to detail.
    • The ability to see potential problems before they arise, and the desire for continuous improvement.
    • The ability to objectively audit an area or process to identify non-conformities or unsafe working practices.

» Planning & Procurement

Job Purpose

    To plan and schedule the internal and external demands of the company’s stakeholders. Purchasing the relevant raw materials in accordance with customer specification requirements. Co-ordinating material resource planning and production planning schedules to ensure the product is produced on time, to agreed specification in the most efficient and cost effective manner.

    • Liaising with the sales team to determine customer requirements and expedite orders to meet OTIF
    • Purchasing of all raw materials for production & BOM housekeeping
    • Purchasing of all non-stocked items for the company
    • Day to day production planning/ scheduling and driving OEE improvements
    • Daily review of the plan and escalating where necessary with Operations Team
    • To support operations and supply chain teams with process development and lean manufacturing
    • Implement best practice in planning processes to develop optimum efficiencies and support the company’s operational strategy in reducing inventory in all stages of product life cycle
    • AD HOC project involvement

» Junior CAD Designer/Sample Maker

    The Junior CAD Designer will be responsible for assisting in developing intuitive, creative, and cost effective packaging solutions. They will be responsible for day to day sample making & meeting customer requirements and deadlines for the samples & mock-ups

    • Assisting Senior Designers in the Creation of and innovation of new packaging designs from client brief.
    • General sample making day to day of the studio
    • Ensuring customer requirement regarding samples is met
    • Ensuring all samples are dispatched to the correct client using the most appropriate method of courier.
    • CAD cutting mock ups that have been proofed/printed.
    • Handling blanket/ trace/patch sheet output for the Studio
    • Ordering of general consumables for the studio

» Goods-In/Warehouse Operative

    To support the Warehouse Manager and Head of Supply Chain daily with all administrative requirements and requests.  Ensure all goods in are booked correctly and any issues addressed and dealt with in a timely manner.

    Forklift truck licence would be beneficial but not essential.

    Main areas of responsibility:

    • Dealing with all inbound deliveries and booking in delivery loads
    • Raising PO’s for other departments
