As well as wanting to promote Qualvis Print & Packaging as one of the leading privately owned packaging companies in the UK we also want to promote our industry. It was therefore felt we ought to explode some of the myths about the industry, the material we use, our inks, varnishes and the all over misconceived image we’d developed over the years.

1. Our material is purchased from European forests which are sustainable – more trees are planted than harvested; forests preserve biodiversity of plants, animals and insects and provide much needed employment for the local community.

2. The forests in Europe are increasing, NOT decreasing – they’ve increased annually by an area the size of Cyprus between 1990 and 2000.

3. NO tropical wood is used for the manufacturing of folding boxboard & cartons – European forests are large enough to provide fibre on a sustainable basis.

4. Wood fibre can be recycled 5-7 times to be used as White Line Chip or WLC – but cannot be recycled indefinitely. Wood fibre looses strength and length when recycled. It therefore needs new virgin fibre introduced to maintain the properties of the board.

These are just a few of the ‘myths’ but if you read on more will be explained.

Qualvis Print & Packaging is committed to improving the image of the industry as well as the environment. We are working closely with FSC and PEFC accreditation and add these to our list of credentials for 2008.
